Focus and Scope

The demand of continuous academic improvement has urged scholars to do research and share knowledge in writing. English Study Program of Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University accommodates these academic scholarly needs by providing the journal entitled Humaniora Scientia.

This twice-a-year, refereed, journal accepts a wide variety of both theoretical and practical manuscripts around the following fields linguistics, translations and English Language Teaching (ELT).

Peer Review Process

Humaniora Scientia is a fully refereed online journal published twice a year in March and September. The standard of acceptance includes the following criteria: relevance, authenticity, new insights, flow of thoughts, and significance.
Relevance An article submitted for publication in Humaniora Scientia should be relevant to the journal’s scope and areas, which broadly include Linguistics, Translations and ELT. Preference is given to research articles. but theoretical review articles of newly published books that offer fresh and innovative perspectives on linguistics are also welcome.
Aunthenticity As mentioned in the Publication Ethics, articles sent to this journal must be original and has not been previously published, entirely or partly, nor is in the waiting list of any other publication.
New Insights An article submitted for Humaniora Scientia are expected to bring new insights to the field, discuss current issues, contribute to the advancement and accumulation of knowledge in the field. The article must show a clear and deep understanding of the topic discussed. If it is a research article, the findings could be followed up by further studies.
Flow of Thoughts In academic writing, main idea and supporting sentences, coherence in and between paragraphs, diction, hooks and transitional words, phrases and sentences are the elements of a good flow of thoughts. In other words, flow of thoughts leads to the readibility of an article.
Significance A Book Review is significant because of the reviewer’s analysis that brings awareness to the readers about the new insights written by the book author. A research article has a big significance if the findings is original and new.

The Process of Acceptance Article Submission Humaniora Scientia is an open access journal using an Open Journal System (OJS). Authors are required to register before submission. Readers could directly read the articles. The copyright of articles published in the journal is with the author(s).

Editor Evaluation Articles received will be sent to the editor team for evaluation in terms of language, academic style and suitability of topics. If the topic is acceptable, but has some problems with the language, it will be returned to the author for revision. However, if the language, style and topic are unacceptable, or if an article is proven a plagiarism, it is directly rejected with some explanations. Otherwise, the article will be sent for peer review.
Peer Review All articles passed the desk evaluation (editor’s evaluation) will be sent to a reviewer and will be blindly reviewed. Comments and suggestions from the reviewer will be sent to the author for revision with a time limit no more than 15 days.
Editorial Meeting Finally, an editorial meeting, or “virtual meeting,” is conducted to make the final decisions regarding the articles to be published.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Plagiarism Check

All articles submitted to the journal Humaniora Scientia are subject to plagiarism check. Articles that do not meet the requirement will be returned to authors for further editorial works or will be rejected immediately. Plagiarism checker used by the journal is Turnitin.
